SafeLocal app for iOS devices was developed by Johns Hopkins to provide an efficient and safe way to calculate local anesthetic doses. Surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other medical providers can utilize the app by customizing it for each patient. Using the patient’s weight and comorbidities, the app calculates the maximum safe dose and can even be used during procedures to track how much anesthetic has been given and how much more the patient can safely receive. Complex and non-standard concentrations of anesthetics are included within the calculator’s options. Importantly, multiple anesthetics can be inputted, calculated, and viewed simultaneously.
