If you use Citrix to access EPIC or Cerner remotely, and are updating your Mac OS to Sierra — make sure to update your Citrix app before you try to reconnect to your electronic medical record.

Citrix has an update for their Receiver app, 12.3, that will fix any connectivity issues you’ll experience after the Sierra install.

When I first updated to Sierra I was locked out of accessing EPIC remotely, but found the quick fix was updating the Citrix Receiver app as well. Almost every physician I know accesses their EMR remotely to finish charts or check on a patient’s status — so this functionality is critical to maintain and can really hinder workflow if it doesn’t work.
