Last year Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) launched the R-helper app. The R-helper app was launched as a supplement to a large sickle cell study that is currently underway at the medical center. Now the children’s hospital has launched a medical app focused on pediatric patients with inflammatory bowel disease — such as Crohn’s and Ulcerative Colitis. The app is called myGI and is available to download for free.
In order to use myGI you need access provided from CHLA. The medical app itself enables patients to submit weekly surveys about their symptoms, view recent survey results, and also provides ancillary resources for patients. MyGI is available for both Android and iOS devices.
At a time when hospitals mainly use mobile apps for marketing purposes and for providing physician directories, it’s impressive to see how CHLA is instead using medical apps to collect patient data and conduct research.
