Apple’s ResearchKit platform launched a little more than a year ago with 5 medical apps by large hospital systems. Since then the list of ResearchKit apps has significantly grown, with more than 20 ResearchKit apps currently available.

One of the latest releases is the Mind Share ResearchKit app study. This is the first ResearchKit app study that measures the relationship between lifestyle, health, and Alzheimer’s Disease. The ResearchKit study was created by academic researchers from across the country.

The study gathers data using BrainBaseline’s cognitive test suite to evaluate how behavior, lifestyle, medical history, and other factors affect cognitive function in people with mild cognitive impairment, dementia, or Alzheimer’s disease.

BrainBasline has a wide variety of cognitive tests and the company is ResearchKit compatible — which allows researchers to plug in particular cognitive tests into any type of ResearchKit study they want to develop.

Inclusion criteria for the Mind Share study are the following: Must be at least 18 years of age and also diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, or another form of dementia.

Per the Mine Share Alzheimer researchers, the ResearchKit app will gather three types of information:

1. You will complete surveys to help us understand general demographic and lifestyle information that is important to the study.
2. As a participant, you will be asked to complete BrainBaseline assessments to track cognitive function over the course of the study.
3. Health information will be gathered and recorded via your device’s Health app. You can choose which information to share with Mind Share.
