Lifescan Verio Sync Meter enables glucose sharing with Apple's Healthkit platform

Lifescan, a Johnson and Johnson company, is the latest to announce integration with Apple’s Healthkit. Lifescan makes glucose monitoring systems for home as well as hospital use. They recently announced that their companion app OneTouch Reveal, which is for diabetics that use the OneTouch Verio Sync Meter, now enables data sharing through Apple’s HealthKit — making it a Healthkit enabled glucose meter. With the help of the free OneTouch Reveal mobile app, users can now sync data from the app to Apple’s Health app. OneTouch Meter users can now share their blood sugar results wirelessly and view them directly on their iPhone or iPad.

Another helpful feature is the app automatically looks for any patterns that readings may follow and provides users with the details. Some users’ glucose may spike at certain times of the day or after certain foods. Users can turn on the pattern notification feature. It can pick up patterns of very high or low glucose readings and notify the user so that they can make any necessary changes or consult their physician.

Patients can input their information and get a 90-day comparison. Other helpful app features include the reminder section where users can set reminders to do things such as perform glucose tests, eat, take medication and even buy supplies. Each can play a part in good diabetic management. While users can now enable data sharing through Apple HealthKit users can also share their last reading by text or email and share a report by pdf. These data sharing options make it easier to share information with physicians or specialists.
