The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases(NIAID) now has an iPhone and Android app that lists their studies that are recruiting study participants.

Mobile has provided a great platform to recruit study participants. Apple’s ResearchKit platform has already enabled Academics to enroll thousands of individuals into their studies.

The NIAID is hoping to establish a mobile presence with their iOS and Android apps. The app is relatively straightforward — listing studies based on keywords.

However, it’s unfortunate NIAID didn’t do more with this app. You can star and save studies, but you can’t contact investigators within the app or even learn more about the study without going into web browser mode.

Even more frustrating is that you can’t just see a list of all the studies unless you leave everything blank and click search. Hopefully future iterations of the app will provide more legitimate functionality.
