Mobile board review apps have been around for some, some great and some not so much. The Family Medicine: PhysicianBoardReview Q&A app was produced by Edens R&D with the family medicine board exam in mind. It is one of many similar board review apps produced by Edens R&D for a wide variety of medical specialties.  At iMedicalApps we have reviewed several Family Medicine Board review apps in the past.

User Interface

The app opens to a list of the 100 questions contained in the app.

You can either start answering all the questions or tapping the menu button on the top left corner gives you the option to view questions by category.

So if I wanted to do specific questions, such as for gastroenterology, I would click on that subheading and that brings me to the list of gastro-specific questions.

Selecting a question gives you a list of options and once you answer, you can look at an explanation with references at the bottom.

The option to break questions down by system is great, however, it’s limited by the fact there are only 100 questions in the app so just a few questions per system.

Going back to the menu, you can tap on the report card section to get an indication of how you are doing so far.

There are also options to enable a review mode which shows explanations after you answer a question, a shuffle mode and the ability to reset your answers and report card and start off from scratch.

Tapping the about heading gives some information about the app and the question writers, complete with a link to the developer’s website and their disclaimer.

Evidence and literature used to support the app
The question explanations have references listed with every answer and the questions themselves are written by a team of physicians whose biographies are listed on the developer’s website.
