Apple had built in a medical ID into the core of the iOS platform. This is a huge deal for physicians and health care providers who want to be able to access key patient information as often times acutely decompensating patients are unable to provide this history.
Medical ID apps have been around for more than 5 years now, but before now, they were unable to be accessed on the lock screen.
Since Apple’s Health app is built into the core of the iOS 8 platform, you can now access a patient’s health information without having to unlock their phone.
In the following video review I show how patient’s can add their health information to the iOS platform, including donor status, blood type, and key health information.
The video also shows how health care providers and loved ones can access the medical information on the locked screen of an iPhone.
