WebMD recently announced at the 2013 mHealth Summit that it will be expanding the beta program for its Patient Instruction feature.
Physicians who use the Patient Instruction feature on Medscape Mobile can securely send information and instructions on thousands of conditions, procedures, and drugs to their patients that use the WebMD app for iPhone.
The data can also be accessed on WebMD via a desktop as well as other mobile devices.
The upcoming version of the WebMD app leverages the Qualcomm Life’s 2net Platform which allows consumers to access and manage wireless health data directly via the app from a variety of fitness, wellness, and medical devices.
Physicians can also manage lists of patients and save favorite instruction sets for easy retrieval. WebMD plans to expand this capability eventually allowing for more customization and additional information and services to be made available to patients.
Bill Pence, EVP, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer for WebMD explains that the “Patient Instructions functionality will enable consumers and their providers to jointly manage their care, and our partnership with Qualcomm Life will provide consumers with a more personalized WebMD experience that makes biometric data more actionable.”
