Purpose of App Review
- To determine the usability and functionality of a medical reference and lab value app.
3 in 1 Lab Values + Medical Reference (herein referred to as 3 in 1), is an app that consists of three components: Lab Values, Medical Abbreviations, and Medical Prefix/Suffix. Each of these sections are essentially apps in their own right, but 3 in 1 brings them all together for access from one simple interface. The Lab Values section contains lab value information for a large number of tests. There is also a description of the texts as well as differential increased/decreased values and additional information on the lab. This points users to resources on the web like Google, WebMD, MedlinePlus, and Wikipedia.
The Medical Abbreviations section contains precisely what its name suggests. There is an alphabetical list of medical abbreviations along with their full names as well as links to learn more about the condition on the web either via Google or Wikipedia. The Medical Prefix/Suffix section contains an alphabetical list, a search box and links to the web for further reading on various medical conditions.
The less information-dense sections of 3 in 1 are Medical Abbreviations and Medical Prefix/Suffix. Both are helpful tools for quick answers on-the-go, but the real attraction of 3 in 1 is the more replete Lab Values Reference Section.
It is quite an accomplishment that the developers of 3 in 1 could design an app that’s both intuitive and comprehensive with multiple components. The three sections of the app are all dynamic and seemingly accurate. There is little room for error in terms of navigating the app to get the answer one is looking for.
Another interface advantage that 3 in 1 contains is the links to online resources for medical conditions, medications, and lab values. Although the Medical Abbreviations and Medical Prefix/Suffix sections only link to Google or Wikipedia, the Lab Value component points users to more reputable sources like MedlinePlus and WebMD.
- Well-designed and easy to navigate, even across the three app components
- Links to online resources and other sources for further learning
- Web links found in Medical Abbreviations and Medical Prefix/Suffix sections could point to more reliable sources (not just Google and Wikipedia)
- 3 in 1 contains three components for quick medical reference and lab values: Lab Values, Medical Abbreviations, and Medical Prefix/Suffix
- Resources points users to other online resources
- Appropriate and useful for both practitioners and students
