Lifeline of Ohio’s mission is to empower Ohio’s community in order to save and heal lives through organ, eye and tissue donation. They are an independent, non-profit organization — and they promote and coordinate the donation of human organs and tissue for transplantation.
They have taken their mission to mobile form, by creating an application that encourages Ohio residents to register to be an organ donor. The app launched last week, and appears to have some kinks, as the registration button appears to be broken on the iPhone.
Hopefully they will be able to make the registration process easier once the bugs are worked out. Ideally, you should be able to register within the app, without having to go to another website. Nevertheless, this is a public health app with potential and I expect other organizations to follow suit in similar form.
Frankly, I’m surprised more haven’t tried to do organ registration via mobile applications (there are a few haphazardly created apps but nothing this focused on organ donation for a particular state).
