Purpose of App Review

To showcase a rare and informative app for students and professionals conducting any general lab work.

Introduction

Chemistry Lab Suite offers tools for individuals in the fields of peptide chemistry, mass spectrometry (both proteomics and metabolomics),  and chemistry.

The interactive tools are grouped into four sections as follows:

  • Solutions (solutions and buffers) – helps to determine recipes for dilutions and stock/working solutions
  • Proteins (proteins, peptides, and amino acids) – look up structures and properties, calculate fragment masses and accession of protein information
  • Peptide Synthesis – information on solid phase peptide synthesis, protocols, and reagent properties
  • Chemicals (chemicals and elements) – allows calculation of molecular weight, use of chemical formulas, and a detailed list of the periodic table of the elements with relevant information

These top-level categories open up to deeper levels of tools, utilities, and information. It is not entirely clear who the developing entity is behind Chemistry Lab Suite. It is apparent, however, that the developer programed the app in a non-professional capacity on his/her  “spare time” per the developer’s website link in the Google Play store.

User Interface

Chemistry Lab Suite utilizes a simple model of organizing it’s content. Choosing a top-level category opens a next level page with more options to choose from, and so on, until the user reaches their desired content/tool. Some of the information found in this app is interactive and practical for hands-on (lab) use while other content is simply informative. This makes Chemistry Lab Suite appealing for a broader audience of laboratory personnel.

Functionally, Chemistry Lab Suite is intuitive and understandable. There is minimal scrolling, back and forth between pages, or difficult searching to find the information desired. The content is organized well which is evident by its ease of use.

Chemistry Lab Suite’s aesthetic design only adds to its simple organization and dynamic functionality, especially regarding the utilities and tools for on-the-job use in the lab setting.
