The Motorola Defy could very well be the first mass produced smart phone ready made for the hospital setting. Some of it’s specs: 3.7 inch high resolution screen, waterproof (ergo bodily fluid proof), scratch resistant, and dust proof. The below demonstration by Engadget shows it’s durability in fluid – it would probably hold up decently in some chlorhexidine solution as well.

To be clear, we’ve seen rugged phones before – but this phone is running Android 2.1 – making it a legitimate smart phone. It’s expected to launch during the Christmas holiday season.

Thanks for our friends over at Medgadget for this find.
