Health 2.0, an organization/movement that wants to bridge the gap between technology and healthcare, recently announced that the Hokie Health Code-a-thon which will be held April 13-14 in Blacksburg, Virginia. This two day challenge will bring together people and teams from a variety of professions and talents with the goal of developing applications that enhance care quality, safety and efficiency. This contest will require teams to develop prototypes of the apps they are creating and will be given the opportunity to show off their product.

Health 2.0 joins forces with AT&T to host SXSW’s official Mobile App Hackathon on Mar. 9, 2012. Health 2.0 and AT&T are challenging developers, UI/UX designers and researchers to build mobile health applications over the course of 24 hours at the downtown Austin Convention Center from Friday, Mar. 9 to Saturday, Mar. 10.

Today, March 9th, is a big day for certain participants in this year’s South by Southwest (SXSW) located in Austin, Texas. Health 2.0 and AT&T have teamed up to host SXSW’s official Mobile App Hackathon. While the title may be a bit misleading, the goal of this contest is to challenge developers, UI/UX designers and researchers to build mobile health applications–all within a period of 24 hours. The winners of the Surgeon General’s Healthy Apps Challenge, first launched at the mHealth Summit in December, were announced last week. The four winning apps were selected from three categories: Healthy Eating/Nutrition Physical Fitness/Activity Integrative Health/Well-being These four apps represent a range of imaginative solutions to encourage people make better food choices, exercise more and adopt healthier lifestyles. They also show that the federal government sees mobile technologies as a viable means of improving public health.
