*Is this app helpful?
*Does it provide valuable first aid information?
*Should you recommend it to your patients?

Introduction

The British Red Cross is a volunteer-led humanitarian organization that helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are.

They enable vulnerable people at home and overseas to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their own communities. When the crisis is over, they help people recover and move on with their lives. The app served as basis for the American Red Cross’ First Aid app.

The App

Once the app opens up to its main menu,  five tabs become available. They include:

  • Learn
  • Prepare
  • Emergency
  • Test
  • More
Learn provides information on different scenarios like asthma attacks, choking or heart attacks. Videos demonstrating what should be done with step-by-step instructions are available for most situations.

We can use the Prepare tab to prepare ahead of time for emergency situations like natural disasters using checklists for the much needed elements.

If we find ourselves in an emergency and don’t have time to read we can simply go to the Emergency tab. The appropriate steps to handle the situation can be found here.

There is also a quiz-like section labeled Test. Furthermore, the More tab includes information on volunteer work, giving blood, emergency courses, etc.
