A simple, yet potentially useful adaptation of a clipboard could find a home on the hospital wards if Clipboard+ meets its fundraising deadline on Kickstarter in one week.
The idea is that hospital residents and students still need to write on paper, but that juggling a smartphone or tablet while trying to hold paper is a problem that is not going away immediately, even with increasing adoption of electronic health records.
Enter Clipboard+: a metal clipboard with a paper holding clip on one side and a metal tab on the other side that holds an iPad securely.
Given the trend for crowdfunding even complex medical devices, such as the LUMOBack we recently wrote about, it seems that combining market testing with startup funding will continue to attract inventors in health technologies.

This is going to be really useful for people working on their feet with an iPad all day. Looking forward to this project’s success!
With regards to the notion that this may be useful in the hospital, I think the lack of portability (i.e. the fact that it won’t fit into a coat pocket) is what kills it.
There are tons of iPad ready coats available to purchase — however, I’d be intersted to see if those work with this clipboard, as it does seem it is larger.
I think the shoulder strap could make up for the fact it won’t fit into a coat pocket, and at the very least makes it mobile without being a burden.
I am constantly misplacing my ipad and I use a clipboard all the time with my work. This will be perfect for me.
